Dispelling myths: Commercial Printers Aren’t Green
March 22, 2014 · Print This Article
Minuteman Press Pinetown will be looking into the myth that commercial printers aren’t green. This printing myth buster will help you to learn the truth about this myth and make up your own mind. Ever since the rise of electronic communication, shops that provide printing services have been accused of destroying the environment unnecessarily.
Tree huggers everywhere seem to believe that paper is the main cause for forests being cut down and because printing shops basically deal in paper, they are amongst the leading culprits that are promoting the destruction of trees. Oh yes! And the ozone layer.
Getting the facts behind the stories
The truth of the matter is, however, that the paper consumption industry as a whole uses a very small percentage of the global wood production. 53% of all trees that are being cut down are used for energy production and 28% by sawmills for the production of furniture. Compare this to the only 11% goes into the paper industry. Furthermore, most of the paper used for printing purposes is a 100% recyclable and environmentally conscious printing companies pride themselves on using only one of two sorts of paper: Recycled paper and paper that comes from sustainable forests.
And, we go even further to make sure that our printing company has as little impact on the environment as possible and therefore employ a whole host of other cost saving and green practices. These include things like using environmentally friendly ink and recycling our empty cartridges as well as making sure that all our cutting-edge printers are serviced regularly so that we keep running costs and energy consumption to an absolute minimum.
And just in case you were thinking that it’s all good and well that printing is greener than you thought, but electronic information distribution is better, think again. The CO2 emissions from burning a CD are as higher as printing a 4 colour 100 page document!
