Comb, Coil, and Wire Binding – the differences
September 13, 2011 · Print This Article
There are different types of binding options available for all of your binding needs. Whether you are a student who has to bind your essay or you are a large company looking to bind thousands of documents – there’s a different binding solution for every project, booklet or proposal.
Once you have familiarised yourself with the differences between comb binding, coil binding and wire binding, you will be able to choose the perfect binding solutions for your specific project.
Comb binding
Comb binding is a great way to bind the pages of a booklet, training manual or study guide together. This method typically involves round plastic spines which consist of rings. A hole puncher is then used to create small holes in the documents to provide you with a neatly finished product.
Coil binding
Coil binding is a popular option for book binding. This binding method, which is also known as spiral binding, is commonly used to bind documents, reports and proposals. One of the many benefits of coil binding is the fact that it is extremely durable which makes it an excellent option for booklets that will be used regularly. If you choose coil binding, you will be presented with a number of options (such as short, tight spirals and longer, loose spirals). The type of project and the size of the paper will influence which type you choose.
Wire binding
One of the biggest reasons why people choose wire binding as their binding option of choice is because documents bound in this method are able to open fully flat on a surface which allows for a 360 degree rotation. This type of binding also looks extremely professional and it is often used for presentation purposes, children’s books and art books.
