Make sure your newsletters are read with these tips

If you are thinking about sending newsletters to your regular clients, you need to make sure you’re producing an interesting and readable piece of communication.
Newsletters – much like any other form of print media – are only as strong as their readership. It’s of little use spending days writing articles and taking pictures if only 5% of your target audience is going to read it. Take note of these newsletter tips to draw and hold the attention of a loyal audience.
Newsletter tips
- Attention grabbing headline. Make sure that the name and headline of your newsletter is bold, creative and grabs attention. Do not use your company name as a title – your best bet is to come up with a name for your newsletter so that people immediately recognise you as the source of the information.
- Objectivity. This is a key ingredient when it comes to appealing to readers. Your newsletters should not read like a sales brochure but rather like a newspaper article, making use of soft selling by providing facts.
- Simple language. Using complicated language or specific jargon that only certain people will understand is only going to shrink your readership. Language should be casual and relate to a wide range of people in order for your newsletters to appeal to a wide target audience.
- Proof read. Remember, newsletters will reflect the professionalism of your company. Proof read to make sure there are no spelling or grammar errors.
- Graphics. People enjoy pictures. Your newsletter is far more likely to be successful if you include one graphic per page as it provides a visual break as well as grabs attention.
